With regard to the history of the United States, I am of the opinion that most Americans, when they think about our country before the advent of COLOR photography and/or film, think in terms of a black and white world. The reason for this I believe, is that before the late 1930′s – early 1940′s, most everything the public saw, whether it be in the form of movies, newsreels, magazines, photographs and then in the late 1940′s-early 1950′s – television, was in black and white . Our view of history is distorted by the fact that the recording of that history, in early images was basically told in black and white. Our images of the Civil War, The Wright Brothers, Teddy Roosevelt, Charles Lindbergh, World War I, Woodrow Wilson, Herbert Hoover, The Great Depression, FDR and the early images of Major League Baseball – Cy Young, Ty Cobb, The “Black Sox”, Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig – compare those early images with the images and technology available today – COLOR television, computers, satellites, You Tube, DVD’s, iPods, instant replay, video games etc – absolutely – a different world!!!!!

How many of us have seen Joe DiMaggio and Ted Williams “in their prime”, FDR “throwing out the first ball”- in COLOR?????

Hi again – for everyone who is reading this blog for the first time – if you have an interest in WWII era major league baseball, please let me know – I believe I may have some unique “inside” information as I “grew up” in baseball as the son of a major league ballplayer, George Case Jr, who played in the major leagues from 1937-1947 – the WWII era of major league baseball – certainly one of the most interesting and challenging times in the history of the game.
My father loved baseball and his love of the game was passed on to me . My late father led the major leagues in stolen bases for 5 consecutive seasons – 1939-43 and led the American League in stolen bases – 6 times.
As I grew older, I began to realize that I was experiencing a life that very few kids or adults would be able experience or even say that they “knew” a major league ballplayer – well, I certainly did – he was my father!
As I entered adulthood, I came to realize that most Americans had little cognizance or understanding of the role major league baseball played during WWII and yet that role was a vital one in “keeping the home fires burning.” I also was able to produce, because of my father’s interest in COLOR “home movies” – the most definitive record of major league baseball in FULL COLOR ever produced – a glimpse of major league baseball during WWII that has been seen by many – but only in black and white – this would be a record of Major League Baseball through the “eyes of a big leaguer” in FULL COLOR!!!!!
